Location & Geograpy

Fiji is a group of 333 islands and another 500 small islets.The Archipalego lies in the South Pacific, lying about 4,450 km southwest of Honolulu and 1,770 km north of New Zealand.Among these islands, about 106 are inhabited. Viti Levu, the largest island, covers about 57 % of the nation's land area, is home to the capital Suva, and most other major towns including Lautoka Ba, Nasinu, and Nadi Almost 68% of the total population of Fiji lives on this island. Vanua Levu, 64 km to the north of Viti Levu, covers 30 % of the land area though is home to 15 % of the population. The main towns are Labasa and Savusavu.


Fiji is blessed with a tropical climate with a more or less constant weather pattern.The best season to visit Fiji is winters, between May and November.The weather is comfortably warm but less humid than the summers. The hotter season in January, February is usually no more than 3 to 4 degrees hotter than the cool season of July and August.

Trade Winds in Fiji mostly come from the south east. These winds are usually light to moderate with stronger winds more common in the May to November period. Fiji also has a cyclone season during its rainy season from November to April with can cause high winds.
