Location And Geography

Seychelles comprises of 115 granite and coral islands and lies between 4 and 10 degrees south of the equator .The Archipalego has a land area of 455 km² and an Economic Zone of 1.4 million km². Of these 115 islands, 41 Inner Islands constitute the mid-oceanic granite islandswhile the rest 74 forms 5 groups of low-lying coral atolls and reef islets that together are the Outer Islands.

Seychelles is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the legendary Vallée de Mai on Praslin and Aldabra, the world’s largest raised coral atoll.

Weather

Seychelles’ climate is always warm with no sharp changes. the temperature is mostly between 24°C and  32°C. With the exception of the southern islands ,the rest of Seychelles lie outside the cyclone belt.The typical tropical weather makes Seychelles 'The perfect' destination for the sun and beach lovers.

During the months of October and March the north-west trade winds blows, the sea is mostly calm and the weather humid and warm, with an average speed of 8-12 knots.

The islands receives its annual rain between january and march, rejuvenating the rivers and streams.The foliage is at its colourful best in this season.

From May till September the weather is drier and cooler.This is the major season for tourist influx and the beaches and seas are livelier.

The Island Clusters

Seychelles' 115 islands can be divided into two distinct groups. The tall granite, Inner Islands are clustered around the shallow plateau and lies 4° south of the equator and at a distance of 1800 km. from the east coast of Africa. The Outer Islands is scattered up to 10° south of the equator and lies further away from the plateau.

The Outer Islands have five groups: the Amirantes group, the Southern Coral Group, Alphonse Group, Farquhar Group and finally the Aldabra Group.The Inner Islands has a total of 43 islands-- 41 granitic and 2 coralline.

The Inner Islands cluster around the principal islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, forming the cultural and economic and tourism hub of Seychelles.Most of the tourist accommodation as well as a maximum of the country's own population lives in these islands. 

The Outer Islands are less visited due to their remoteness from the main lands.Only two islands in this cluster, Alphonse and Desroches, currently has accommodation facilites.

Maldives has crystal clear blue seas, turquoise reefs, shady palm trees and white sandy beaches. A perfect getaway for a lazy holiday , one can sit back on the beach and enjoy an exotic cocktail ,explore the vivid coral reefs and rich marine life or indulge in some great water sports

Location

The Maldives comprises of two rows of atolls in the Indian Ocean, just across the equator. The country is made up of 1,190 coral islands,formed around 26 ring like atolls, spread over an area of 90,000 square kilometers.

Each atoll is made of a coral reef encircling a lagoon, with numerous deep channels dividing the reef ring. Ech Atoll ring has a string of islands ; every island has its own reef encircling the main island lagoon. The reefs has countless variety of underwater creatures and vibrant corals,that protect the islands from wind and wave action of the surrounding vast oceans.

Ninety-nine percent of the Maldives is made up of sea. The population of the islands is widely dispersed across the atolls.Only 200 islands are inhabited, about a hundred islands are developed as tourist resort.

Weather and Climate

Maldives enjoys a picture perfect weather : warm sunny days, cool breezy nights, clear balmy mornings, and the most picture perfect sunsets. The temperature hardly ever changes - which makes packing for your holiday an easy task. The average temperature remains around 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Maldives has two distinct seasons; dry season (northeast monsoon) extending from January to March and wet season (southwest monsoon),from mid-May to November.The rare thunderstorm (around the southwest monsoon months) are a welcome respite from the sun. Cloudy skies, grey seas, and crashing thunder makes up a weather perfect for indooors.

Diving

The seas of Maldives have high visibility throughout the year.The marvellous coral reefs and the free flowing tides of the monsoons ,have made Maldives one of the world’s richest coral reef diving areas.

The Maldivian waters are rich with qver a thousand species of fish and other underwater creatures. The best thing is that one need not be a professional diver to enjoy the Maldives. All resorts and safari boats give basic to advanced training using well-monitored diving facilities of a high standard.

Most dives takes place along reefs or near the channels where the atoll meets the ocean.There are options of night diving which are particularly beautiful with the dark warm seas and the glittering aquatic life.

Watersports

Maldives has water all around,Infact the country has more water than land.This simple seting makes Maldives a Mecca for water sports.Every resort in Maldvies has a well equiped sports center which offers a wide range of watersports.These centers have all rquired equipments like maskes and surf boards of various sizes.Many resorts offers beginners and advance courses in surfing and sailing.There are also options of parasailing,kayaking, windsurfing,waterskiing etc.

Maldives is a paradise for surfers.The southwest monsoon brings with it massive swells, especially from June to September. The sizes range from 3 – 8 feet. The North and South Male atoll has various well known Surf breaks.

Excursions
